The smell of blood overpowers me
I clutch a hand,it turns out to be deceased!
Wherever i stare lifeless bodies lie,
Is this all i fought a battle for?

The Great War for freedom
they said was mine!
Freedom from what i ask myself
Freedom from whom?
We win battles,
 savor the fruits of victory,
we win lands, make slaves of men
But have we won hearts?
Have we made friends?
Has man won the war against DEATH?

No reason, just a thought reminds me of Robert Browning's Patriot. NMo I am not a fan of Browning's Epistemology, that some people are chosen to go to heaven no matter what they do (case in point—> I did not like the content of Pophyria's Lover and Johannes Agricola in Meditation) Anyhow, very well written and touching. Also I suppose the War against Death is a battle better Lost.
