Movie Review: Raman Raghav 2.0
In school, we had a short story in our English literature curriculum. It was written by Gulzar, titled Michelangelo. The ‘moral’ of the story was we all have both Jesus and Judas in ourselves. That’s what Raman Raghav 2.0 by Anurag Kashyap also says.
On one hand we have Raman who kills because he considers it one of his daily chores – like eating, sleeping or shitting. On the other hand we have Raghav, a police officer who is a drug addict and would take law in his own hands, if necessary.
The narrative is dark, psychotic, on-your-face brutal, supported strongly with stirring background score. The scenes of murder have been written so well that they’d send shivers down your spine. The sharp editing would keep you on the edge as each chapter progresses…
Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Vicky Kaushal are like icing on the cake. Ey bole amay dekh toh o bole amay… How coolly Raman relishes his meal even as the corpse of his sister is lying next to him. Raghav’s own fight with himself will also wrench your heart.
But the award should obviously go to Anurag Kashyap for this scintillating film. After an overhyped disaster Udta Punjab, Raman Raghav restore your trust on him.
P.S. – Be careful while answering the door next time 😉
My Rating: 4.5 stars
