Book Review: I Am Life by Shraddha Soni

I am Life ReviewSpirituality is not a genre that I like to read. After a bad tryst with The Monk who sold his Ferrari, I had given up on the genre. Paulo Coelho is a writer I cannot stand. Why then did I agree to review this book? That is a mystery to me.

I am Life is the story of Siddharth Khanna – Sid, a businessman from New York who sets out to find God, and that quest leads him to India, the land of 33 crore Gods! His search for the Ultimate takes him to many places, and we are part of his journey.

The good thing about the novel is that it has a happy ending. The final realization that Sid has makes the narration quite realistic. Even the author has used simple language that makes the book open to all readers. However, at places the book becomes overbearing and boring with Sid’s rants. The realistic plot and the depiction of modern day fast-paced life makes the book alluring.

What makes the book credible is that Sid is not really searching for inner peace – it’s largely how to win his company and his fortune back. The narrative weaves through the highs and lows of Hrishikesh and Haridwar as Sid stumbles along rejecting all supposedly spiritual avenues and finally serendipitously meets with Myrah.

There are very few characters in the book, and each of them have been written well. Sid’s character has been sketched with finesse. What matters most is the fact they all feel real.

About the author

Shraddha Soni is a natural healer who has been practicing pranic healing, reiki, clinical hypnosis for the last 16 years. Her clients include top celebrities from all over the world. She has a huge following in Bombay. She has turned a lack of reading textbooks into an opportunity to develop her individuality, proving education has little to do with expression and intent can transcend language.

My Rating: 2.5/5 stars

I am thankful to Writers Melon for the review copy of the book.
